Indeed we are full of joy, as today, we have occasion to celebrate the 60th birthday of Dr. Gabriele Dietrich, a precious sister and friend.  Feminist Theologian and scholar, Gabrielle has contributed tremendously to the great body of Indian women’s literature particularly in the fields of Religion and Eco-Feminism.

A social activist par excellence, Gabrielle is deeply committed to the cause of underprivileged women which she has relentlessly pursued.  German by birth she has identified completely with her country of adoption and is more Indian than Indian in her manner of lifestyle, dress and language.

WINA India deems it a great privilege to bring out this volume as a humble tribute to a sister who is deserving of much more. On a personal note, I would like to add, that Gabrielle is truly a great motivator and enabler. She is always ready to lend a ear and give advice, and she has influenced and impacted the lives of many women, even at the cost of her own health. The members of WINA are truly grateful for her availability to be a resource person whenever we have sought help in our programmes. It is a joy to be associated with her!!

To honor Gabrielle this publication carries, articles by internationally renowned theologians, educationists, scholars, social activists and friends.  To each of their good wishes, WINA adds its own and prays that God will continue to bless her with many years of good health, peace, happiness and joy!
